They are all here, from the first rude hotel in Yosemite Valley in 1856 to the year 2000: Hutchings House, Black's, Leidig's, Peregoy's, La Casa Nevada, the Sentinel Hotel, the Stoneman House (on the cover), Camp Curry, the Mountain House, Yosemite Lodge, the Ahwahnee, and many more. Included are J. M. Hutchings, Desmond, J. J. Cook, the Currys, and the present concessioner.
Shirley Sargent is the author of 26 books and editor of six more. Most of them are about Yosemite, its legendary residents, and its visitors. “Yosemite,” she states, “is a magnet, lodestone, and haven to me, and to thousands of other appreciative devotees. As I've often said, Yosemite is a place of multiple interests and singular splendor.”
